Trying to choose
I’m trying to determine my best choice in a 700*38-42 size. This bike spends 80% of the time on pavement, both recreational and light touring (30lbs or less). The other 20% is spent exploring fireroads and hardpack loose dirt trails.
The Marathon Supreme and Cross would appear to be good choices on paper. Does the Supreme really provide any traction in the off-road conditions I have descriped?
How would the Cross do while cornering on pavement under load? And then there’s the Racer HS where does this fit in?
I am not concerend so much with durability or puncture protection as I am in getting a tire that could provide a good comprimise unfer the conditions I have described.
Thanks so much
They Work On A Recumbent To
I’ve had a set on my Stratus XP LWB for about a year and really like them —- They’re as fast as my old Specialized Armadillos, still look good, NO FLATS, and they are probably the best tires I’ve ever used on wet surfaces.
Again How about more sizes
How about offering this in a 700c x 28?
700x28
Any plans to introduce this size?
New Sizes
See comment below….
New sizes for 2009
The range for 2009 has now been set and these are the new sizes being added to the existing line-up:
42-406 (20 x 1.60)
42-559 (26 x 1.60)
Both sizes should be available as of November 2008. Other additions to the size range will have to wait for 2010.
Thank you very much for your input.

How about other sizes?
I would like to purchase two sets of these for our recumbents. We could use these in 406 and/or 451. They would be great for touring/commuting and still not give away too much performance for the weekend rec ride.
New size 42-406 is coming
Good news: a Marathon Supreme 42-406 (20 x 1.60) is in development and planned for release November 2008.
Need 26 x 1.5
I tour on 26 x 1.5 or 1.75. It would be great to offer the 26” in narrower widths.
26" version too wide
Why would you only have a 2” cross-section? When I’m commuting, I never use anything wider than a 1.5. I currently ride the Marathon Race, which I love, but I would try these if they came in a smaller size.

26" version too wide
I agree. A 1.5”, plus maybe a 1.75” width in this tire would be great!
I agree Would like to see
I agree
Would like to see these in a 1.5.
Hope you guys are making some in smaller sizes as I would like a pair.

An Outstanding Tire!
I used the Marathon Supreme HS 382 tires on trip from Mobile, AL to the Canadian border in Minnesota last summer. Not only did I not have ANY puncture flats, but they showed minimal wear after carrying my 220lbs and a full touring load (40+ lbs) for over 2000 miles. Additionally, these tires performed VERY well in the pouring rain and on every other road condition I encountered.
I have complete confidence in these tires. I will be using them again this summer on a solo, unsupported 2200-mile trip on the Stuart Highway in Australia. While no tire lasts forever or can possibly protect against every road hazard, in my experience the Marathon Supreme has proven itself to be an unbeatable tire that a touring cyclist can truly depend upon.
Conti Sport Contact possibly better
The Continental Sport Contact is specified as 20g heavier but it’s a continental which means top notch natural rubber compound, most supple ride and the Safety System which IS more effective than any woven barrier as in this Schwalbe Marathon. I recommend trying the Conti!
Marathon Supremes Rule the Road
While Conti have a great reputation and are reliable performers these Schwalbe’s are possibly even better. I can’t think of a tire that I have given more abuse to and they still keep rolling along with minimal wear and maximum performance. I think that the Scwalbe engineers have found a blend in these tires that is pretty ideal, plus they always look great which the Contis don’t after a few thousand miles. Go with what ever is available in your local area (always buy from your local shops), but if the Marathon Supremes can be had, grab a pair and give them a go you won’t be disappointed.

Supremely Recumbent?
These tires are not listed under the recumbent category.
Is this is an oversight?
I want to use the supreme on my recumbent, cannot think of any reason not to…and can of think of numerous reasons why I will.
I have had them on my LWB
I have had them on my LWB Stratus XP for approx. the last year with no flats and they still look great (they take to the wet like a duck!)
